QVC Fitness Apparel shoot

January 17, 2015 by Jason Hurst Photography

Here’s some of my new work from a recent shoot at QVC.  It’s always great to work with a talented team!  Great art direction, styling and model, Ashley Harder, totally nailed the expression that we were look for.  Because we were shooting athletic apparel, I was able to light slightly moodier than I usually do.  I use google catalogs quite often for lighting inspiration and model direction .  For this one, I checked out Nike’s 2014 Style Guide  as a guide.  Hope that […]

QVC Must-Have Photography

November 20, 2014 by Jason Hurst Photography

I had the pleasure to work with QVC on their “Fashion Must-have” project.  The team was super talented, the production was just the right size, and we had some beautiful locations to work in.  The key word for this project was natural.  I did my best to keep the lighting believable and the two models were pros at giving natural happy expressions.  Hope that you like em’.

Brushing up on my portrait Skills

May 2, 2014 by Jason Hurst Photography

I was happy to work with talented artist Anna Fox Ryan on some new portraits.  It has been a couple of months since I’ve worked on a personal project and Anna was the perfect subject to collaborate with.  We shot in her studio in Media, PA and used the beautiful colors in her paintings as backgrounds.  Hope that you like em’.

Philadelphia Rower Portraits

December 18, 2013 by Jason Hurst Photography

I’ve found myself photographing a lot of peanut butter and jelly packaging lately.  By lots, I mean hundreds and hundreds jars of Smuckers and JIF.  Although I’m always thankful for the work, this type of work doesn’t always get the creative juices flowing.  As a side note, it reminded me of my first job out of photo school, medical saw photography.  I was like….wait a minute, medical saws? Where are all of the fashion shoots with models and celebrity portraits? […]

Beer Lawyer Portrait

December 16, 2013 by Jason Hurst Photography

BeerAdvocate magazine recently approached me about  doing a portrait of  Alva Mather, a lawyer who specializes in Alcohol and Beer law.  I’ve been working with BeerAdvocate for a number of years and they’re  great to work with for a couple reasons.  1) They give me few constraints 2) I enjoy photographing beer as a subject matter. 3)  I think that my natural style matches up well with the look of their magazine. I thought that I could go a couple […]

Ryan

April 5, 2013 by Jason Hurst Photography

Ryan….Blog….Blog…Ryan.  I have a feeling that you’ll be seeing a lot of each other.  For those of you who don’t know, Ryan is our little son who was born February 24th.  You should get to know him a little bit.  His likes include(but are not limited to) Sam Cooke Pandora station, long walks around Germantown, pacifiers, eating, being held, and being super cute (I may be a bit partial here).  Dislikes would include diaper changes, slamming doors, not being held, […]

Jason’s guide to buying a digital camera

February 19, 2013 by Jason Hurst Photography

“What camera should I buy?” is right up there with “Do you shoot weddings?” in terms of common first questions I receive when people find out that I’m a photographer.  The answers are “It depends” and “yes” respectively, but we’ll focus on the camera question and  point-and-shoot cameras specifically.  I’ll let you know what I think is important when looking at a camera and what resources you should use to make your decision. Here’s a picture of my Canon S95 […]

Herding Keaseys

January 22, 2013 by Jason Hurst Photography

Sometimes taking family photos can be like herding cats, and my sister and brother-in-law’s family ,the Keaseys, is no exception.  They’re  rambunctious, unruly, ornery, and obstinate… and that’s just Matt and Nikki.  But this happens to be precisely why I love taking their picture.  Some famous jazz musician at some point in time said that jazz music is about the notes in between the notes.  I feel the same way about family photos.  Sometimes we work so hard to get […]

Octoraro Lake Quarryville, PA

One element that gives your Photos Drama.

January 21, 2013 by Jason Hurst Photography

Fog.  I love taking pictures in fog.  It diffuses the light and it gives your photos a beautiful ethereal quality.  I was lucky enough to drive upon the scene on Octoraro Lake near Quarryville, PA on my way to visit family in Lancaster.  Ducks, a body of water, beautiful trees, and fog….it’s a beautiful combination.  The photos also looked great on the front and back of my new business card design.  Hope that you enjoy them.
